Insurance Roof Inspections & Claims Support – Victorian Property, Wimbledon

We recently carried out an insurance-related roof inspection on a Victorian terraced house in Wimbledon, following reports of significant damp entering the property.

Chimney Stack

The homeowner had experienced visible moisture staining and water ingress running from the chimney stack, down the internal walls, and into the ground floor living room. Due to the height and access limitations, a traditional inspection would have required scaffolding. Instead, a drone roof inspection allowed us to assess the issue quickly and safely.

Identifying the Source of Damp Ingress

Using high-resolution drone imagery, we inspected the chimney stack, flashings, and surrounding roof coverings. The aerial survey revealed defects consistent with water penetration around the chimney structure, helping to establish a likely route for moisture ingress into the building fabric.

While on site, we also carried out inspections of the party walls, identifying areas where water tracking and weathering could potentially affect neighbouring structures — an important consideration for insurance assessments on terraced properties.

Supporting Insurance Claims with Clear Evidence

All findings were documented using clear, labelled imagery and supported by contextual photographs. This data was then supplied to the insurance company, allowing them to assess liability, determine the cause of damage, and decide whether a payout or remedial works were appropriate.

Drone inspections like this provide insurers with:

  • Objective visual evidence of roof and chimney defects

  • Reduced need for invasive access or temporary works

  • Faster decision-making on claims and next steps

When Drone Inspections Are Used for Insurance

Drone roof surveys are particularly effective for:

  • Insurance claims involving leaks, damp, and water ingress

  • Chimney, party wall, and roof defect investigations

  • Victorian and heritage buildings where access is restricted

  • Supporting loss adjusters with accurate, up-to-date condition data

By combining aerial inspection data with clear reporting, insurers and property owners can make informed decisions quickly, without unnecessary disruption.
