Client Feedback: We saved a client thousands by detecting a roof leak
Our architectural roof drawing clearly shows the exact problem area, helping roofers deliver fast, targeted repairs with no guesswork.
When a block manager in South West London contacted us about a suspected roof leak, we deployed our drone inspection service to quickly locate the issue — without the cost, delay, or disruption of scaffolding or physical roof access.
Using a DJI Mavic 4 Pro, we carried out a detailed aerial survey of the affected elevation and the opposite side for comparison. The high-resolution imagery allowed us to identify signs of water ingress and highlight several contributing factors.
What We Found
Our aerial photographs revealed possible staining around the ridge line and valley junctions, areas commonly associated with water tracking beneath the tiles. Heavy debris and vegetation were also visible in the gutters, particularly on the problem side — a clear indication that water flow may be restricted, leading to overflow and pooling during rainfall.
By comparing both sides of the roof, it became clear that the staining and debris were significantly worse on the affected elevation, confirming this as the most likely source of the leak.
Outcome
Following our previous blog on this inspection, we caught up with the block manager at Moss Properties. He told us the drone survey saved a substantial amount of time and money. Because we were able to identify the probable source of the leak, the roofing team could carry out targeted repairs without erecting scaffolding on a large residential block.
The works were completed quickly, with minimal disruption to residents. Moss Properties were extremely happy with the result and have since continued to use CAV Aerial for further inspections.
